Philadelphia Color and Line: The Influence of Jane Piper and Arthur B. Carles
Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Philadelphia Color and Line: The Influence of Jane Piper and Arthur B. Carles, guest-curated by Jan Baltzell. The exhibition features the oil pastels and paintings of renowned Philadelphia artist Jane Piper, a student of the American Modernist pioneer, Arthur B. Carles. The other artists included in this exhibition share in this unique Philadelphia lineage: from Moy Glidden, fellow student of Carles, to Michael Rossman and Karen Segal, colleague and student of Jane Piper respectively, through to Brian Boutwell and Brad Greenwood, students of Jane Piper’s daughter, Jan Baltzell. The joy of color as a spatial and emotive tool in conjunction with the role of drawing as the explorer of touch and structure runs through the work of each artist.
