Land, Sea & Sky

Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Land, Sea & Sky featuring work by James Toogood, Joseph Sweeney and Joe Painter.  The observable world is the muse for all three artists.  James Toogood’s carefully rendered watercolor cityscapes emphasize variations of light, texture and atmosphere.  His mysteriously depopulated images straddle the line between realism and abstraction, enabling viewers to appreciate them at multiple levels.  As a landscape painter, Joseph Sweeney is never too far from the shore.  Focusing on coastline in his plein air paintings, Sweeney seeks to express the tension between land and water, artist and environment and ultimately the sublime nature of the world around us.  In Joe Painter’s large-scale photographs of cloud formations, the viewer is enveloped in the beauty and awesome power of nature.  Painter strives to enhance the emotional impact of his images through careful composition and subtle manipulation of color and tone.
